What Are the Types?
Home Solar Panels come in three types:
- Single Crystal is the most efficient type. They are fragile and
must be mounted on a rigid frame. Single crystal has a polka dot or checkered pattern.
- Multi or Poly Crystalline are multiple crystals on a grid. They
are less efficient than single crystals and take up more area. Multi-Crystalline still produces about the
same electricity as the Single Crystals.
- Amorphous Silicon is a thin film, containing a small layer of
silicon on a sheet of glass. This type is very expensive.
What Should You Consider?
To begin developing home solar panels for your site, you need to consider your area.
How many days of clear sunlight do you have each year? You need to subtract those cloudy
days and rainy days. The more days of sunlight you have, the less solar panels you will need.
What Are Your Property Restraints?
Check your restraints. Do you have enough roof area to install the solar
panels? Check for available right-of-way on your property, so that you can build or store
materials.
Home Solar Panels can be built on any grade or roof. The steeper the roof, the more
area that is available for installing panels.

What Will It Cost Me?
The cost to build home solar panels includes the fabrication and installation. For an
average home, figure about $20,000 to fabricate the panels. You will need a contractor to prepare the roof
and install the panels. Figure about $10,000 to $15,000 contract with the installer.
To assist with the cost of building solar panels, you can get tax breaks from the
federal government. This can amount to 50% of your fabrication and installation cost. You are replacing the
use of fossil fuels with a clean energy resource.
What Benefits Are There?
What are some of the other benefits to have Home Solar Panels? You
will have much lower, if not no electric bill. The electric company will pay you back, for your excess supply
and the electricity that they buy from you. Either way, it’s a winning situation.
You will have power during the
occasional power outages and during regional blackouts and inclement weather. Solar Panels supply continuous power
to take you through the troubled times.
What Else Should You Consider?
If you have the area, you can build your own Home Solar Panels.
Some materials may have to be ordered on the internet, and that does take time in shipping. The panels that
you make will be smaller than the fabricated panels. You will have to make more panels to
meet your requirements.
Even if you build your own Home Solar Panels, you will still need a contractor to
install the panels. Develop your bill of materials and have them ready for the
installation. You will save money, if you buy your own materials.
Here Is What You Can Do?
Home Solar Panels are easy to have
fabricated and to install. Check with the federal government on tax incentives that can pay for this work. These
improvements will reduce your electric bill and the nation’s dependence on foreign oil.
