Solar Energy

Solar Energy (or energy from the sun) can heat a home, provide electricity for the community and help to grow crops. Solar Energy can help to reduce our need for oil and energy from fossil fuels. It is that hope for the future.

How Effective is Solar Energy?

Solar Energy is free energy from the sun.  It’s clean, unlike oils from fossil fuels, the energy is readily available. Solar Energy has drawbacks; it is not sunny every day. That means there may not be a continuous flow of energy. This can occur on cloudy days and during storms.

Your Solar Energy efficiency is based on the area you live in. If you have a four-month rainy season, your energy efficiency will be lower. In Texas, the hot, humid summer days are very sunny. Solar Energy can produce the electricity needed for high energy days.

What is Solar Energy Used For?

There are numerous ways to use Solar Energy, they include:

1)      Water Heaters in Homes.  In the 1890’s, solar energy was used to heat water for the water heaters.  This method was extremely popular at the time.

2)      Greenhouses. Solar Energy heats the plants, inside the glass enclosed greenhouse. These greenhouses are used to grow crops and flowers for distribution. Green houses can let you grow crops in adverse conditions like cold weather, rain, and hot-humid weather.  The temperature inside the greenhouse stays the same.

3)      Wastewater Treatment Plants.  Most treatment plants are built outdoors and accommodate the pool/water areas. Here, solar energy helps to distill and disinfect the water. As a result, this water can go back into the steams, without damaging wildlife.

4)      Electricity.  Solar Energy can be used to generate electricity for homes, neighborhoods and factories. This can take away our dependence on coal, oil and other fossil fuels.

5)      Cooking.  Solar Energy can be used to boil water and heat an oven. You can cook a full meal without paying for any electricity.

6)      School Traffic Sign.  Many of the school crossing signs are solar powered to charge the flashing lights. The signs are safe and have a wide spread usage.

7)      Street Lighting.  Solar Energy has been used to power the lights for the street signs. Even during an electrical blackout, these signs continue to work and to provide added safety for the traveling public.

The Two Types of Solar Power

There are two types of solar power:  active or passive. Active solar power includes the use of solar cells and panels to capture the solar energy.  Passive solar power was used originally to absorb the sun’s rays along a building, water line or heater.

In heating a house today, you will be using active solar power.  If you would like, you could build your own solar panels at home and then have a contractor install the unit. You do need several panels to power a house.  These panels could take up the entire roof. It is a project.

We Need It Now!

Solar Energy has been used for centuries to heat homes and grow crops. Today, we need the energy to reduce the needs for fossil fuels. It’s a resource that’s growing everyday.

Earth 4 Energy provides the plans for developing your own solar power for your home or business. By building your own solar panels, you can save thousands of dollars. These panels can be built very quickly.

Earth 4 Energy gives you the tools to build your own solar panel.
