Solar Wind

Hybrid System

A Solar Wind Hybrid System combines the power of two alternative energy products.  A combined system can be cheaper to build and can provide power all day and all year.  Hybrid power systems are a serious alternative.

Why a Hybrid System?

In the United States, wind speeds usually die down in the summertime, while the sun is at its strongest. In winter, the roles are reversed. The winds are strongest in winter, whereas the sun may be hidden behind clouds or a storm. A Solar Wind Hybrid System can operate every day, all year long.

Many hybrids operate as a separate facility. They are not connected to the utility companies. For many homes and businesses that operate in far rural areas, then a Solar Wind Hybrid System may be right for you.

What Makes Up A System?

A Solar Wind Hybrid System consists of:

-           The Solar Panels are usually installed on the south side of the building. The panels are sized to power the entire house or building.

-           The Wind Turbine can be located in an open area on the property. The turbine should be sized to supply power to the building structures.

-           Rechargeable Batteries store the excess energy and release the energy, when required. Several batteries may be required and you need to size them, accordingly. You will need Battery Boxes, which prevent any acid from leaking out. This occurs, when the battery becomes overloaded.

-           Generators can reduce the number of solar panels and wind turbine size required. Generators run on diesel fuel or gasoline. They could be costly over time.

-           Electronic Controllers can operate the system automatically.  They provide consistent power for the site.

-           DC to AC Converter.  Since the buildings run on AC, the DC Power from the solar panels and wind turbines has to be converted to AC.

How Else Are Solar Wind Hybrid Systems Used?

In the United States, solar powered signs are used at School Crossings. In Japan, a wind solar hybrid system is used to power their street lights.  Both a small windmill and two panels are mounted on a pole that rises above the street.

Other Solar Energy Options

Solar Power can take up a lot of room on a building roof. You can mount the solar panels on a separate structure. You can also use concentrated solar power, where a mirror tilted circular around a pole, directs the sunlight to the top of the pole. This concentrated solar power could replace some solar panels.

What Are Some Installation Options?

For installation, you can install/build the entire Solar Wind Hybrid System. You can also build it in stages. Do the windmill first and then tie it into the building. Add the solar panels as a second stage.

A Consistent Energy System

A Solar Wind Hybrid System is an alternative to a straight solar energy system or wind energy system. By combining solar and wind energy, you can have consistent power all year long. Wind and solar power are green energy, there’s no residue as compared to fossil fuels (oil and gas).

The system is an ideal way to go, if you own an independent system in a rural area.

Earth 4 Energy provides the plans and video instructions for developing solar and wind power. You can build these projects and save money in lieu of having a contractor build the improvements. With the easy step-by-step instructions, anyone can do it.
