Source Energy

Source Energy is where it all comes from. It powers our cars and heats our homes. It keeps the lights on and the home fires burning.

What Are Our Current Energy Sources?

Our current sources for energy include:

  1. Coal – is the largest energy source of fuel for generating electricity. Coal provides 54% of the United States’ electrical supply.  Coal is a fossil fuel, and toxic fumes are released into the atmosphere, when electricity is generated. Coal has a limited supply, as coal mines are shutting down in the United States. Therefore, we have to end our dependency on coal.
  2. Oil is turned to gas to power our vehicles. Oil is also used to generate electricity and to supply heat. The United States imports over half of the oil that we use, and this number is growing every year. Oil is a finite resource and getting more expensive every day. The price of gas is determined by foreigners.  We need to end our dependency on oil.
  3. Nuclear Power was at one time, the way to go. It seemed like a sure way to handle our energy needs. But with the fear of radiation leaks and fallout, nuclear power took a downhill slide. Projects were delayed, some were cancelled, and others were never built. To meet our energy needs, we need to decide if nuclear power is a feasible alternative.
  4. Natural Gas is a source energy that heats many homes in the United States.  It is a relatively clean burning fossil fuel. Some utility companies are using natural gas to produce electricity.  Despite its increased usage, natural gas is a finite resource. Natural gas prices have increased over the last few years. If we want to exceed our source energy, then we must to look to other alternatives to replace natural gas.
  5. Hydroelectric Power uses water to produce electricity. Only about 7% of the electrical power generated in the United States comes from Hydroelectric Power Plants.    To develop the project, Hydroelectric Power Plants take a long time to plan and design, they encompass a large area, and they disrupt the ecosystem for the area. New Hydroelectric Power Plants are few and far between.  Even so, can Hydroelectric Power meet the energy needs of the future?
  6. Solar Power uses the energy of the sun and then turns it into electricity. This clean, renewable power source can be harnessed with solar panels. Solar Panel installation and the conversion to Solar Energy is an expensive process. For many homes, it’s just not worth it. You can apply for tax breaks, but you still have the high cost.  Solar Source Energy is a good alternative, but an expensive one.
  7. Wind Power includes the installation of wind turbines to generate electricity. Wind Power can produce electricity cheaper than the coal plants. Check to see if this alternative is right for you.

What’s ahead for the future?

An energy source for the future has to grow.  As a result, the planning includes:

-          increase supplies for energy

-          change your source energy

-          developing new alternatives for use
